Unlike many other diseases, there is no straightforward ‘positive or negative’ test for MS and none of the range of tests available to help doctors with their diagnosis is 100% conclusive on its own. This means that ultimately a doctor will diagnose MS by a combination of observing a person’s symptoms, and ruling out other possibilities. This is called a ‘clinical diagnosis’.
