The Company

Signo Motus is a research-intensive Italian SME established in 1994 with Headquarters in Messina, (IT) and a Technical Unit in Pisa, (IT). The mission of the company is aimed at covering the gap, in "signo motus", between the most recent technologies and their industrial application, through R&D activities and integration of advanced technological solutions.

The core business is represented by research and development and industrial applications in: robotics, ICT and e-Health, smart materials and additive manufacturing. The R&D team has relevant experience in the development and management of European and National R&D projects related to both civilian and defence sectors. The developed technologies have indeed a dual-use purpose.

Signo Motus offers innovative technological services related to the core business areas. Moreover, the company has a software product portfolio composed by: Nutrimenta Veterinaria, AgeWell and Habilis.

Staff and Facilities

Signo Motus is made up by a group of around 10 people, whose main strength lay on a multidisciplinary team of engineers with more than 30 years of experience in R&D and industrial applications related to the core business areas. The organizational chart and the main company facilities and equipment are reported below.

The Headquarters main facilities include:

  • dedicated software tools and hardware (N. 5 high-performance workstations) for 3D modelling, simulation and numerical analysis (as member of the Autodesk® Developer Network as Research Centre);
  • control software development kits;
  • general purpose robotic simulation tools;
  • vendor specific robotic simulation and programming tools;
  • 3D printer and related software tools;
  • on-site server room (N. 1 redundant file server; N. 1 redundant firewall server; N. 3 dedicated server for Virtual Machines);
  • laboratory (about 40 m2) for electronics, manufacturing and testing of mechanical prototypes, equipped with tools for design, analysis, and control system development SW;
  • electromechanical characterization instruments for smart materials (electro-rheological fluids);
  • electromechanical test instruments for smart materials based prototypes and devices (electro-rheological fluids).

The Technical Unit main facilities include:

  • N. 3 workstation for SW design, development and testing;
  • SW design, development and testing tools (IDE: Android Studio, Intellij IDEA, Eclipse, Sublime Text, Visual Studio Code; SCM/VCS: Git, Subversion; SW lifecycle management: Atlassian Trello, Atlassian JIRA, GitLab, GitHub, Bitbucket; Build management systems: Maven, Gradle; Application/Web servers: Apache Tomcat, JBoss Enterprise Application Platform (EAP), Apache Web Server, Nginx; DBMS: MySQL Workbench, Realm Studio; Virtualization: VMware vSphere Hypervisor (ESXi), VMware player, Virtualbox, Docker; Productivity tools & Office suites).
